Person of Interest: Intro Animation

Broadcast graphic

  • Jeff Pegues came to me asking for an intro video to his new Youtube series, Person of Interest. He said, "you're obviously creative, so just have fun with it." So that's exactly what I did. This is the first animation I've ever timed out to a solo drum track and it was a super fun visualizing all the different rhythms and sounds.

Visual Development

The goal of this project was to reflect the spirit of the show - a casual conversation over beers at the bar. A friendly back and forth that might range from topic to topic. We came up with a couple concepts.

Back and forth

Since Jeff's show prioritizes interviewing interesting people, the topic of conversation will vary from episode to episode and I wanted to show that visually. With this concept, I wanted to characterize the idea of stimulating conversation as a bunch of icons hitting a ball back and forth. As the ball zooms around, it's hit in a completely different direction by another icon.

Hot and Cold

With this concept, I wanted to add a little sophistication and really embrace the color palette of the Jeff Pegues Media brand. The main point this concept was to convey the fact that conversation is a sort of dance that starts at one point, and ends up somewhere completely new. Thoughts mix together and things get more nuanced and interesting. Obviously, we settled on this approach and I think it was totally the right choice.
